156 - Interview with Bina Cho of FLETA

Fundamentally, a blockchain is a way of getting a bunch of computers to agree on what the true version of data really is.  This is called the consensus algorithm and is the heart of a blockchain project.  If you use proof-of-work, you will trade higher energy costs for a decentralized, secure system.  If you use proof-of-stake you will reduce the energy costs, but run the risk that the first adopters of the system had more control than people who join later.  But what if there's another way?

FLETA is a Korean-based project that uses a consensus mechanism called Proof of Formulation.  Their goal is to get a chain that is faster, stronger, more efficient.  Today I had the opportunity to chat with Bina Cho, one of FLETA's Directors, to find out more about their approach to blockchain.

#155 - Dude, Where’s my Private Key?

Neal is back and with him comes the Analysis!  (without him we're just In Chains)

The transaction volume is up in the Bitcoin network but does that mean crypto adoption is happening or is this a blip in the radar?

And if you've not heard, the CEO of Quadriga passed away a few weeks ago taking the passwords to the exchange wallets for Quadriga with him, permanently locking nearly $200 million worth of crypto.

We've said it before, we'll say it again.  Kids, don't store your crypto in an exchange.

#154 - Interview with Cypherium’s James Orbison

If we want to see crypto adoption it's important that we use the right tool for the right problem.  Often projects have to make a choice to trade off between scalability and decentralization. Cypherium has a public blockchain, a private blockchain and a hybrid consensus mechanism so that instead of finding a halfway point of best fit, they can use a private chain or public chain where appropriate.

Will hybrid chains be the future?  James Orbison thinks so.

#153 - AiC in the Cafe with Ben Clair of BetterChain

I know, I know, we've been lax.  Today we make up for it with an extra cool episode.

I sat down on Saturday with my good friend Ben Clair, founder of BetterChain.  Ben and I have tracked together since I started in blockchain, even before Analysis in Chains was a thing. Ben was in Berlin attending AraCon, the Aragon Conference. I wasn't able to attend so after we talked a bit about his project and how blockchain can help with supply chain due diligence in the mineral industry, he filled me in on what I missed at the conference, and what the hardcore decentralized community is thinking right now.

#152 - Interview with RSK’s Diego Gutierrez Zaldivar

Hey everyone!  I actually did have a recording for last Thursday but I ran out of editing time.  To make it up here's an awesome and extra-long episode to kick off your Monday.

I had a chance to sit down with Diego Zaldivar, CEO of Rootstock.  They make smart contracts on the Bitcoin Blockchain.

It's a huge project, and a fascinating one that got started when Diego had a chance to meet Nick Szabo.  Is Nick the real Satoshi Nakamoto? Maybe you'll find out at the end of the episode!

#151 - The Saga of Lambomoon

Did you know Nathan made a rap song?

We probably mentioned it a few times, but didn't tell the whole story and probably didn't play it for you.  Gather round and listen and be surprised, maybe Nathan is as cool as his mom says he is!  If you want to hear the rap song again it's online at http://www.lambomoon.io

#150 - Interview with Alex Dreyfus, CEO of Chiliz

Today we speak with Alex Dreyful, CEO of Chiliz.  Their main product, Socios.com is a digital sports club membership platform based on blockchain, where you can become a member of your favourite sports team and use that membership to vote, having an influence on decisions that team makes.

Chiliz uses their tokens as rare and collectible club memberships, allowing sports teams to interact more directly with fans in a decentralized way.  Will this lead to professional teams being renamed to Sporty McSportface?  Only time will tell!

#149 - Ethereum Hard Fork on the Horizon

On Wednesday Ethereum will implement their Constantinople hard fork (Although it's Istanbul not Constantinople...).  This is the next phase in their road map to transition from an electricity intensive proof of work system to a proof of stake system.  But what does this mean, and what are the tradeoffs?

Ethereum is the granddaddy of programmable blockchain, with a well established token economy and large community of miners. This move has been well planned and thought through but even so, a fundamental change in the Ethereum algorithm like this comes with a fair amount of risk.  Will miners give up on Ether as unprofitable, or will this bring the speed needed to spur adoption and establish Ethereum as the premier blockchain?

148 - Interview with Antonius Link, Cofounder of Hygh AG

Everyone is expecting security tokens to be paving the way for the future.  Companies don't need a completely decentralized protocol to take advantage of the benefits of token-based revenue shares and liquid equity trading.  Hygh AG is doing just that.  Their system is a marketplace allowing people with outdoor advertising screens to dynamically connect with advertisers, reducing the barrier to entry, and they have incorporated a token model that allows holders to share the revenue.

What will the future of advertising look like, and given the potential for manipulation, how much should governance be centralized. Is it enough to share revenues or should governance and decision making be shared also?  These are the questions Hygh AG is tackling as they move forward in the advertising space.

#147 - Incentivize This!

Blockchain is more than just digital money that we hope will go to the moon so we can get a Lambo.  Blockchain is a way of creating entirely new economics and incentive structures so we can create digital platforms and infrastructures that don't rely on a central company keeping control of all the value or information.

As we move forward to the new year we need to think of the new projects and new incentive models that will define the future of Blockchain.  But what is an incentive model anyway?  What are some examples?  Listen in today and find out!
